— Jethro Anderson —
The first feather
Before his disappearance, Jethro Anderson lived with Dora, his mother Stella's sister and his second mother figure, in her home in Fort William. He and his family hailed from Kasabonika Lake First Nation, almost 600 kilometers north of Thunder Bay. Jethro had just turned fifteen and was in his first year at newly-opened Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School (105-106).
He was last seen alive on October 28. Shawon Wavy, Jethro's close friend, remembered seeing him at a party near the Kam River waterfront. He did not return home that night (104).
Two weeks later, when his body was found by a group of searchers in the Kam river, there was no call from the police. Dora found out about his death the same way everyone else did: through a press release on November 11, 2000 (121). This was after the Thunder Bay Police took up Dora's missing persons report 6 days after she filed it and treated her as a nuisance when she called to check for new leads. Immediately after finding Paul's body in the Kam river, the police came to the conclusion that there was no foul play and ruled that his death was an accident (122).
